We "inherited" a Hotspring Prodigy from a family member who paid $200 for it, had it for 5 months and brought it to our house. It leaks about 5 gal/day ish...I don't know what year it is, but the dimensions are 72"X82", it does not have digital controls- they are the push to turn type and are mounted on the side, not the top. It has 7 (?) jets, and a blue design around the inside of the tub about 3" down from the top.
Any ideas as to the year? That could help us..
So we bought spa-leak-stop and it would work for a day, but after you sat in it and ran the jets, it would leak again. We did this twice, followed the directions on the bottle, etc...Nothing. Still leaking. I HOPE we don't have to remove panels and start chipping away at foam!
BTW, the motor compartment is dry as a bone. The leak seems to be coming from the corner farthest away from the control panel, on the left.

PS- found out its a pre-97 b/c of the cover size and I emailed a guy about it and he led us to belive its a 1994 model. I dont ACTUALLY know this as fact....

We have a Prodigy (1996) and are also working to track down a leak. It would be helpful if you posted more information about your leak. Hot Springs spas are filled with foam under the shell and inside the wall panels and then the bottom is sealed over with a fiberglass like surface.

Is the leaking water visibly appearing somewhere outside the spa?

Is the leaking water visible inside the motor compartment?

Have you looked very closely for hairline cracks in the shell? Look specially close around the light lens as this is a common place for leaks in your model spa. This kind of crack would look like a thin line drawn by a pencil or a hair that you can't move or rub off. It will not bubble if leaking from a crack so use a magnifying glass to examine the shell.

Also, remove the light and feel around the lens for moisture and/or a paper towel to test for moisture.

If the water can be seen in the motor compartment your leak will be relatively easy to locate. However, as we have personally learned, if the leak is elsewhere in the spa it can be very difficult to track down.

If the leaking water is visible in the motor compartment that is actually a good thing. If there is no visible leaking water in the motor compartment then there could be a leak ANYWHERE in the flow pipes/plumbing and that is not a good thing.

Quick Sharing of our recent experience. We bought our Hot Springs Prodigy new and paid a ton of money for it and when it began leaking a few years ago we just drained it and "retired" it in place intending to get rid of it BUT we recently decided to see if it could be repaired.

We actually had two leaks to begin with. Our original cartridge heater was the biggest leak. We had Hot Springs tech do a service visit and he replaced the heater, ozonator and circulation pump. Now our leak is much slower - we lose about four inches overnight and we are working to track it down - now we have "invested" a grand into fixing this spa and one way or another it WILL be fixed.

Okay - if you have no visible leakage in the motor compartment I would first pay for a Hot Springs service call (make doggone sure the technician to be sent is VERY experienced and competent). If he/she cannot find a leaking component or problem in the motor compartment you have a choice to make.

1. give up and toss the spa.
2. pay either Hot Springs dealer (very expensive) or find an aftermarket service company EXPERIENCED with Hot Springs spas to find the leak. This could mean going in from the bottom removing foam insulation in various places until the leak is found and fixed. It can mean having the side panels pried off and digging through the foam til the leak is found. We have found a repairman with a SUPER reputation in our area and we expect that if we hire him his fee will be between $300 and $600.
3. you can get gutsy if you are a DIY person and put the spa either up on blocks (not hard to do - to look for visible leak my bride and I put our Prodigy 30 inches off the deck on blocks BUT DO NOT put water in it unless you block all 12 support points!!!) or you can carefully turn it on its' side and then start digging out globs of foam looking for wet foam to help guide you to the leak point.

Right now I'm thinking of paying the man cause we have already sunk a grand into repair and I don't want to DIY louse things up.

The GOOD news is Hot Springs are very nice and well made spas and since you paid nothing for it even if you invested some money into it you will have a very reliable spa once the leak is fixed.

Hello-- I just wanted ot thank you for the tips and update on the status of our tub now.

I removed all of the guts from the motor copartment and started to tear away at the hard shell inside of it. I did see water standing in there so I turned the ub up on its side and chipped about 5 big garbage bags of foam out. After I exposed a couple of pipes, tubes and jets, I found one that looked suspicious. So it got replace along with the tubing that came out from it. I replaced the foam I chipped out with house insulation and expandable foam. When the tub was filled again, it did not leak! I guess I got it. Id like to say its because Im smart, but I think I just got lucky!!!

It was a long, tiedious process but Id say thats the best way to stop a leaky tub. I think I paid about $80 for the parts, foam, etc.. Good luck on your tub. It may just take time instead of money to find a leak these tubs!
