I have a leak in a 2" flexible PVC pipe where it joins an elbow.
It drips about once ever 30 seconds even if the pump is off, but more often when the pump is on.
How can I repair the leak. Do I have to cut the pipe and relplace the elbow?
Is there any glue I can put on the outside of the joint that will stop the leak.

in my experiance, you can use the flexible pvc cement (glue) to reseal this leak, but, as with my experiance, it will leak again. The best way to fix this problem is to cut the old elbow out and replace it. If you don't have enough pipe to properly glue to the new elbow, extending the elbow (by using 2 couplers and 2 short sections of pipe) will be necessary. Be absolutely sure to scrape any insulation overspray off the flex pvc and use plenty of primer to ensure a good bond.

Thank you.
I suspected that I'd have to replace the elbow, but I didn't want to if I didn't have too.
Maybe the flexible pipe leaked because I didn't scrape it when I replace the elbow a few months ago.
What should I use to scrape the flexible pipe before I use the cleaner and glue on it?

I've used sand paper, the back side of a hacksaw blade, fingernail, putty knife, chisel, etc with good success.

I just wanted to ask also, what cleaner/glue are you using? If you use Oatley, you will use cleaner in the yellow can and the glue will be for flexable pvc and is in a light blue can. Standard pvc glue and cleaner will not work. It will eventually leak. Be sure to read the labels since oatley has another type of glue that isn't for flex pvc and is also in a light blue can.

Charger 1,

Thank you for all the info. I appreciate the tips on the correct glue to use for flexible pipe.
I've used it in the past, but it's been a while, so I wasn't sure.

I still haven't fixed this leak. What's holding me up right now is I'm not sure I have the right cement.
I couldn't find any of the Oatey cement for flexible pipe at Home Depot.
The guy at ACE hardward told me that ACE Multi-purpose Cement would work. On the can it says for joining PVC, CPVC AND ABS PIPE and fittings thru 6"dia. Schedule 40.
It also says it can be used on Types I and II pipe.

Will it work on flexible pipe?

Barry
I don't see anything about it being suitable for flexible pipe

Barry,

Yes and no. In the short term it will work, however it will not last nearly as long as if you use the right cement. Home depot does not sell the proper cement, and from my experiance, neither does Lowes. The only place I have been able to find the flexible cement is at Menards. If you are having that difficult of a time locating the proper stuff, I could probably help you out, as I have 5 new cans here on hand (I buy 5 at a time since the nearest Menards is over an hour's drive from me, and I don't like driving that distance just to get a small can of cement!)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 846Charger,

I haven't been able to find flexible PVC cement locally, but there is flexible cement on Amazon.com at the URL above.
Do you think this will work? Would you use it?

It is sold along with purple solvent.
But I don't believe you recommend the purple solvent on flexible pipe do you?

Thanks,
Barry

Yes, I think that would work just fine
