I have an older model hot springs spa, 88 or 89 model soverign. The jet pump is leaking, i believe it needs the shaft seal(s) replaced.

Is this a difficult job? Can i just remove the motor, so i dont have to disturb the plumbing? Since this is such an old tub, would it be better just to replace the wet end?

I assume i will have to drain the tub before removing the jet pump!

Are there any tips on doing this to help make this project go smoothly?

Thanks in advance!

If you can see the shaft from the motor to the pump, check to see how rusty it is. If it is still shiny metal, and the plastic part from the pump doesn't appear inflamed (flared), then repair is possible. If the shaft is rusty and the plastic part seems flared, plan on replacing the whole pump end as they usually shatter when you try to remove that part from a rusted shaft.

One more thing, regardless if you repair or replace that seal, also put new bearings in your motor. If water got past the pump seal, it probably got into your bearings too.
