Hi,
I have a 2003 Hydrospa and the seal where the 220volt pump motor shaft goes into the wet end of the pump is leaking.
I removed the pump assembly and have the cover off the wet end, but now i need to remove the impeller to get the housing off the motor.
How do I remove the impeller without breaking it?? :?:
I cant use a standard gear puller because the shaft is not exposed in the middle for the puller to press against.
Is there a different type of puller to use or did any of you fabricate something to pull it off??
Please let me know..
Ill post some pics today so you can see.
TIA

Dave..

The impeller is threaded on. You'll have to figure out the best way to hold the shaft steady, there might be a hex or flathead slot on the back, or it might even be made to accept a 1/2" or 7/16" wrench. Sometimes vice grips will do the trick as well.

Once you've got the shaft held in place, the impeller should twist off. If there's a bold in the center of it, take that out first (reverse-threaded). Sometimes you'll need a strap wrench or something to put a little more force on it, and sometimes the threads are so rusted together that it has to be broken off and replaced.

There are a few tools made for the job, but I'd have to see the pics to see what would suit you best.

Thanks for the reply Spishex.
I tried turning the impeller to loosen it and it wont budge. There aren't any flat spots on the shaft to grab with a wrench. I used a large channel lock pliers and a strap wrench to no avail :x
Here are some pics of what I have.

The next thing I would try would be an Impeller Wedge since I have one around, but for you it would cost as much as a new impeller to try, and there's no guarantee it will work.

You might be able to fashion your own. The principal of the thing is that you insert the tab into one of the impeller veins, and then turn the shaft until the wedge is pinned against the molded part of the housing. You then continue to turn the shaft while the impeller is held still.

Like I said, the bond between the shaft and the impeller threads is sometimes stronger than the plastic of the impeller itself.
