This one is classic... and always happens with that particular version of Cal Spa..

It looks like I'm having the same problem. My setup is exactly as described in the diagram. I looked at my wet end,and I see where the bleed screws go, but it looks like I have plugs instead of bleed screws. There is no bleed screw in the elbow to the heater. What can I do to bleed the wet end?

Thanks,
Daris

On further inspection, it looks like the wet end head was molded with impressions for bleed screws, but they were never drilled through and tapped. The pump is a Hayward Power Flo. Again, quite old I assume. I can't find an exact match in any of the parts catalogs.

I'm wondering if I can pick up a bleed screw plug and washer, thread the the bleed screw impression, and then carefully drill out the molding. What I don't know is how the impeller is orientated to the bleed screw molding (opening).

I'm thinking I can tap the hole and get the bleed screw to seat properly first. Once the bleed screw is installed correctly I can remove it, drill through the molding slowly with a very small bit, and then carefully enlarge the whole with bigger bits (taking care not to hit the impeller with any real pressure). I shouldn't have to drill a very big hole, just to vent a little air.
