I see a lot of postings for removing the wet end to replace the shaft seal - which is what I need to do - and a lot of comments about buying a new impeller at the same time since it will probably break. WELL, I succeeded in breaking off the cone-shaped cover of the impeller, but am stumped on the best way to get the impeller itself off without cracking the wet end housing. How is this thing on there? Threaded? I sure could use a suggestion on the trick for removing it. BTW, the pump is on a Hot Springs Prodigy H.

best way at this point is to pull the armature out the front of the motor case.

(Slide it out the front. You may have to knock the FRONT end cap off of the motor. Be sure to remove the 4 thru-bolts first).

Grab the shaft with a pair of vice grips, and throw a towel or something around the outside of what's left of the impeller, and rotate counter clockwise as you're looking into it.

Sounds like a plan. That's where I was headed, but needed some confirmation. Thanks for the input; I'll let you know how this works...

Thanks guys --- this post saved my bacon. Never having taken apart one of these pumps before, it was not at all clear how the impeller was held on. Seems self-evident now! The vice-grip and rag did the trick. I used some long-nose vice grips and did not have to slide the armature out!
