Subject is a Regency Spa manufactured by National Equipment Mfg. Corp. Previous owner is a friend who says it was working when last used. ID tag shows no mfr. date, but inside door it says 2003. Pump is 115v Hayward. Controls have no name, but shows type as SSS HT-12 Convertible. No owner's manual.

The spa is wired to 220v following wiring scheme inside control plate. When powered, electronic in-tub controls show reading and timer works. But, pump does not activate. However, when I depress an apparent reset button the pump works.

I have never known a reset button to fail, but this one is suspect. It does not click down with breaker on or off. Can it really be that the reset button is the problem? Is there a reasonably simple way to test a reset button?

What appeared to be a reset button was not. It is merely a door switch, like on your refrigerator. It shuts down the power when the door covering the controls is opened. And, sure enough the thing won't work until you depress that button.
