I bought a used Vita Spa. It's approx 12 yrs old. D53 - Elan model. 230v - 2 pumps (one 2speed, one 1 speed). Here's the story...got the spa hooked up, filled, turned it on and both pumps work, blower works, heater works, but the jets running off the 2 speed pump do not work on high speed and I have water leaking out of the heater control box when the jets are on high. (one speed pump jets work fine) No leaking when low speed pump running. I went ahead and heated it up to ensure the heater worked and it worked fine. I've tried to get someone here to look at it, but they can't come for approx 3 weeks...or tell me that anyway. There was a lot of junk floating around that came out of the pipes when the blower and pumps were activated. I just drained it, refilled it, and now I have better flow of water through jets that were not working, but I still have water leaking out of the heater box and now the heater isn't kicking on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

bad seals on the heater box, or cracked plumbing/housings.

Okay, tried it again today. Everything is working fine now, except the heater will only run when the jets are on high. It won't run on low speed like it's supposed to. The leak out of the heater box stopped after I left it on for a while. Don't know if the seals needed to heat up or what. Question now is...how do I fix the heater to run on low speed?

assuming that the motor may be just simply wired wrong, swap the red and black wires.

I'll check that out, but it worked fine on low speed the first time I heated it and nothing has been changed. The only thing I've done is drain it and refill it. I'll do some playing around with it this weekend. Thanks for the help.

perhaps i misread the problem, is there no low speed at all? If not, then you may have a sticking cam switch (if yours is so equipped). Noted by a push button for the jet pump, and normally has 4 steps.

It's got two pumps. The main pump is a 2 speed (low and hi) and both speeds work fine. The other pump and blower work fine as well. Everything with the spa is working fine now, except the heater. The heater is supposed to heat when the main pump is on low speed and/or hi speed. It worked on low before I drained it, but now it's only working on hi speed. I need it to work on low speed for the timer purposes. Draining it fixed the jets running off the hi speed, but screwed up the heater. ???

are you running a 60 amp feed to the tub? Almost all spas will NOT heat in high speed, unless they are well fed, and capabable of such a configuration. In any case, check your flow switch. Perhaps you either have a blockage or restriction, or a miss adjusted switch. Remove your filters and see if that "fixes" the problem with no heat on low speed.

yes i am running a 60amp feed to the tub. I tried removing the filter and that didn't do the trick. I had my fingers crossed though. I'm not sure what the flow switch is or where to find it. My heater diagram has a pressure switch, but no flow switch. Is that the same thing?

Here's a link to show you my heater diagram. I have the DX Heater that's shown on the right. I appreciate all this. I'm new to owning a spa.

the flow switch/pressure switch do similar function, but are designed differently. The switch is #3 in the diagram you linked to. You can temporarily bypass this switch by shorting the two wires that go to it together. This will fool the control to thinking it has plenty of flow. This should at least get you to a point to determine if everything else is working. You can adjust that switch to less sensitive by turning the knurled knob counter clockwise. I wouldn't go more than a turn or two max.
