Hi! I have an  early 90s Hot Springs Sovereign Spa. For the last year, the temperature would vary depending on the outside temp. The colder the temp outside, the hotter the Spa. After the last refill, the heater would never shut off. I measured 140 degrees the next day. Any advice as to what needs replacing and where to buy the parts? I'm pretty handy but this is over my head.

Thanks,

Jim in Alabama

Jim,

I am having the same problem with my early 90's Hot Springs Sovereign and I am still working on it. I've seen from other posting some troubleshooting tips that this maybe a thermostat problem and I think that's what's wrong with mine. With just the circulation pump and heater running, turn the temp knob way down, do you hear the relays kick off? On my tub, when the water is cool, I can turn the heat setting knob down to the coolest setting and I can hear the relays release, but when the tub heats up and turn it down, the relays never click. So the tub just gets hotter and hotter. Mine got so hot that the jet select knob doesn't work anymore. The plastic probably got too hot and soft and now slips all the time. It sounds like we both have a thermostat problem. I am starting to look into replacing the thermostat. If I am successful, I'll let you know.

Thanks Martin, I look forward to hearing what you find out. I miss my tub! I'll check to see if it cycles off turning down the wheel, but I'll bet it doesn't. You could have had a shrimp boil in it.

in my early hotsprings prodigy the intake was in a bad spot. if ididnt reach in and get the funk out w/ my fingernail it would overheat. Like the newer models where the intake is via the filters.

I'd replace the T-stat right away, and be sure the sensing bulb is in the correct spot, and hasn't come loose.
