I made the mistake of reinstalling the control panel in my 1994 Hotsprings Sovereign Model 1 with the power still on to the box. The copper wire accidentally touched a relay and let the smoke out. It tripped the breaker so I hoped everything was fine. I hooked everything back up and plugged'er in. Everything seemed ok until I came home from work the next day to find the water temp at 150 degrees (tested with meter)!! The hi-limit tripped and turned the tub off. I figured it was a faulty thermostat but the wire I burned isn't the one that goes to the heater...it's the one that goes through the wooden frame under the tub. There are three copper wires total on the control panel. 1 goes to the heater and the other two go under the tub. Anyone know which ones these are?

Jeff

Picture shows the box (center of picture) that the copper wire came from and the other is where the wire's go. Pics are from camera phone so quality could be better.

You burned up the capillary tube on the thermostat.

That's not a wire.

You'll have to replace it because there's nothing to turn off the heater once it reaches the set temperature.

Thanks Pageup and Swine. Is there a good place to purchase the thermostat? Where do the capillary tube go once it goes into the tub surround (refer to picture)?

Thanks again,
Jeff

You can buy the part from your local Hot Spring dealer, or on-line. For a 94, you actually get a spiffy electronic T-stat and thermistor retro-fit kit. Much better than the original mechanical T-stat.

Just pull the capillary tubes out of the dry-well. Pull them both out together. There is probably some foam, and then a little clay (for insulation) you'll need to pull out first. Don't need to drain the tub.
