I am going to order a cover from Spa Depot and I was wondering if some of the upgrades are worth the money 1.Load-Duty 2 lb. Core Upgrade Adds more strength, longevity, and additional R-value to either of above cover models
2. VaporShield Double-Wrapped Core Upgrade: Double VaporShield Water Intrusion Barrier for double cover life expectancy. +R-2
3. Energy Shield Upgrade: Heat-reflective underside saves energy dollars (+R-7 equivalent
Everytime I try and talk myself out of one I think it is only $40 but then when you add them all that is $100!! We live in WA state and have a 110 hot tub which does great but costs alot to run. So if we could save some energy $ with upgrades to the cover it would be well worth it. Thank you for any info.

2# foam WILL greatly increase the strength of the cover, but will do very little for R value (the R value will increase by R-1).
Doubling the VaporShield will have ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT on R value (polyethylene has an R value of R-0.84 and doubling it [without a space between layers] makes NO difference), but should GREATLY increase the life of the cover by further protecting the foam from moisture absorption.
Energy Shield also has NO effect on R value, but can reduce radiant heat loss.

The R value is what I am looking for? So will it be worth $35 (cost of upgrade) to reduce radiant heat loss? What is your opinion of Spa Depot covers. They get pretty good reviews. Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I'm assuming your asking of the Energy Shield? This is the same product used in pizza delivery bags, and also used in refrigerated truck. We've used it for YEARS in our covers. Does it work? Yes! How well does it work, or what kind of savings might you see? I haven't a clue. There's never been any independent, side by side comparison testing done to show what kind of savings might be achieved. As we're currently in negotiations to supply Spa Depot with covers, I'll withhold any opinions I might have on their current cover
