i`m installing my dream maker spa on my deck prblem is the joists are 2by six on 24 in centre, now what i was going to do is screw some 2by 6 under the footwell and suport them with a couple of post and pads the ground where i`m installing this is sand so there is no concern of shifting i wonder if this will work as i sure don`t want to build aother deck and also the dream maker is a lot lighter than most spas any advice would be great thanks and bye the way this is an awesome forum

Take the weight of the spa itself. Then multiple its gallons x 8(8lbs. per gallon). Then add the two together, then add the weight of the people. 300 lb spa + (250 gals x 8 ) = 1,300 lbs. +(3 adults x 175lbs) = 1,825 lbs. total with bathers.

The spa with water is a DYNAMIC load. The load is moving. It has the potential to rip a deck right off of a home. Seen it happen( not one of our installs).

Lag bolt the deck throught the sill board or foundation. You can add/sister the floor joists with additional 2x6's or 2x8's where the spa will be located. Then add a triple 2x8 or 2x10 beam directly under the spa spanning these reinforced floor joists. Then to your posts, to preferably cement sonotubes 42" deep.

Anything less is a compromise, and best to consult with your local building official. Safety should be priority.

thanks for the reply i thought that because 70% of the spas weight is in the footwell that extra bracing under the footwell would do it as far as puting cement tubes i think that the sandy ground i am on would not be a problem cause the cottage or deck have no shifting at all if it was a dirt ground then i would consider that and thank you for the help
