Hello,

I am new to this forum as well as building hot tubs. This is my first one.

The hot tub I am working on has a foam insulation sprayed on the underside of the shell about 3-4 inches thick.
The question I have is when I set the tub down for the install, do I need to remove the spray-on foam that covers the bottom of the footwell? It seems like it would just crumble under the weight of the water once I fill it and possibly crack the shell.
The shell is aprox. 15 years old and the spray-on foam is kinda brittle.

Thanks,

Robman

personally i'd remove existing foam to the shell and reapply an even layer
you didn't indicate installation - inground, cabinet?
if its in a cabinet i'd position it in the cabinet framework with the timber directly under the shell and foam exposed areas after.
in saying this, many manufacturers happily rest foamed shells onto framework - my opinion is the same as yours - likely to crush down and put undue pressure on the shell
