Having trouble getting things in check with my tub. First time getting this thing up and running.

I'm have Dichlor, Baking Soda, and Ph Down at my disposal.

I put in too much Dichor and Ph Down giving me high chlorine and low PH. Initially my Alkalinity was zero with low calcium. I drained 1/4 of the tub, filled it back up and used the Baking Soda to get my Alkalinity to 80 (low end of good). That still left a great deal of chlorine (as expected) but my Ph level is odd, it doesn't really match up. When it was low the strip was yellow. Now the square is mostly white and the dye that is there is sort of red/purplish.

Thoughts? In what order do you try and get things into their ideal range and how?

Thanks,
Bryan

I might add that I had to add a good pound worth of Baking Soda to bring the alkalinity up. Would this have caused the PH to go up or down?

Balance alkalinty first. balance to 120-150 ppm. Then, balance pH, then Calcium hardness, then shock with dichlor chlorine.
Alkalinity increaser also raises pH.

Thanks for the reply. I know how to raise alkalinity with baking soda and I've done that (a tad high now). As you mention, that made my Ph raise significantly so I went from acidic to basic 8.4+. How do I get the calcium in order?

All this time my free chlorine has stayed at 10ppm (or more) so I've been waiting to see that drop down into the normal range. Hopefully using the tub a bit will get that down.

Thanks again,
Bryan

Never try to balance a spa with high sanitizer level. It affects the tabs for alkalinity, pH, and Calcium hardness.
A professional dealer who tests water for free, usually has the capacity to see beyond high chlorine and able to give the amounts to balance. Calcium Hardness increaser is what you'll need to find.

Thanks, that's what I came to understand reading some other posts: high chlorine might throw off everything else. I'll see where my chlorine is when I get home and if it's still really high I'll see about having my water checked.
Thanks again.
