I have read to leave your spa cover up after adding the cholrine chemicals. Sometimes I don't have time to leave top up and gotta get going. Question is do they say this because the chlorine will degrade the inside of cover or because they don't want a buiildup of chlorine gases under the cover so when you open it you are overcome?

It's more that the chemicals will act as a caustic on the cover, and degrade it.
