We have tried everything we know, but still are plagued with excessive foam. just refilled tub, new filter, added metal begone, chlorine, and enzyme. bathing suits are not washed in soap. anyone who gets in has to remove deodorant, body lotions etc. all catagories on the test strips are good. using foam down helps, but it still shouldn't do it.
so, first post, please let me know what other info you need. - thanks, Keith

Does the water foam at first fill or only after bather use? Does it foam before you add chemicals or only after? You might want to eliminate your sources one at a time by first draining and refilling the tub (might want to do this twice to ensure you remove as much of the foreign substance as possible before this test) and soaking your filter in a 1 part muratic acid and 4 part water mixture for 2 hours and rinse. Then run the tub, but don't add anything, including yourself. If no foam, add the sanitizer. Stay the use of the enzyme and the metal begone. If there is still no foam with the sanitizer, introduce the bathers. If still no foam after a couple uses, and you need to use the other chemicals, add them but do it separately, so you can determine which is the source of the foam.
Personally I use 2 things in my tub, chlorine, and muratic acid (PH down). That is all I ever need. Your needs may be different.

I have had a new tub for almost a week now. At first I didn't notice any foam. Everything seemed fine in terms of sanitizer, shock, ph, etc... Then after a couple days of use, I noticed some foam on the surface of the hot tub. I researched online about this. One person said to just use a skimmer and skim the foam off the surface and out of the hot tub. This seemed to help somewhat. Then I noticed I had much more foam if I turned on the air jets which feed air into the water jets, not separately. So perhaps in my case this "WHITE" foam is just as much air bubbles in the water as anything else and is harmless. Nothing else seems wrong with my water, tub, or filtration, etc.. My salesperson, who I trust to be honest with me, said to just leave it alone, it's nothing to worry about.

rich,
Although it's nothing to "worry about", it is still an indication of poor water quality. Even with the air induction on, foam will not develop in properly maintained water. The foam is almost always caused by the impurities that the bathers put into the water from their clothing and skin. My spas rarely foam up, even when used every day, and not changing the water for months. If I do notice foam building up, I change the water and cleanse the filter. I don't want to be swimming in the filth left behind from the night before, do you? It's easy to keep the foam at a minimum.... so why live with it?
It's easy to see why you would think that the air induction is causing the foam. However, what happens when you take some bubble solution (or soapy water) and put a straw in it and blow? You get lots of bubbles (foam)! That is what is happening with your water... the air induction is aggrivating the problem of dirty water.
ENJOY!

I mix in some defoamer with water in a spray bottle. When it gets foamy, I just spray the bubbles away. Works great.

i actually rinsed out an old dish soap squeeze bottle (rinsed out really really well). The odd time I need to get the foam down, I jsut put a little squirt into it.
The spray bottle sounds good too. Do you mix in normal tap water?
