The "floatie" is a good way to help keep the chemical balance during periods of non use, and the granular is a good way to raise the level before use if it's low. Use both methods. It's also a good idea to mix the granular in a vessel of water before adding it to the spa, so it can dissolve. Get a test kit, and test both before and 1/4 hour after you use the chemicals. Make sure your pumps are on high when adding chemicals. Keep a chart so you can keep track of how much chemical you need to add for each reading you take beforehand. You will get to know your spa and can just compare the reading with the chart to know exactly how much chemical to add. If you have to use well water, I would strongly suggest having a water filter that removes iron placed inline with the faucet you fill your tub with.

Bromine vs. Chlorine. I prefer chlorine, others prefer bromine. It's a personal choice. Just don't ever mix the two!!!!!!
