Hi, Ph,Alkalinity and Bromine are at proper levels and water is crystal clear. When I turn on the pumps I get a foam with a brownish scum on top of it. It has a waxy feel to it and when it dries it gets very hard. I have tried using a clarifier and still get the same problem. Any Ideas what this might be?
Thanks for your help' Bob

Is anyone getting in with any lotions or oils on the body? The hot water environment can pull everything off your body, oils, soaps, sweat, deodorant, shampoo, etc. all this can cause foam. The waxy feeling leads me to oils. Our bodies are naturally oily. The best case scenario is to shower before using. Women like to put on lotion after showering. This will come off into the water. De-foamer solutions are a band-aid fix. They reduce surface tension so foam can't stick. The foam will eventually come back. You could try a sponge type product that floats in the water and absorbs oils.

WHat he said plus.
I get this brown scum/foam any time I use a flocculant. I figure it is all the crap in the water being forced to clump together and float to the top. It gets sucked up in the filters and I soak the filters in cleaner to get it out plus I keep a dobie handy and scrub the edge of the spa when using it.

Thanks for your replies and sorry for the delayed response. I tried clarifier and it seemed to help but not completly. Did a complete drain and fill, filter replacement and balanced and all is good again except that I cant seem to get my Bromine level to where it should be. I added powdered bomide before the bromine floater and keep opening the floater but get no reading. Any Ideas?

shock it? The Bromine may be getting used up dealing with the new water. Can't hurt.
