Hi guys,
I've been using my spa for about 2 years now with no problems at all.
I recently was away for 2 weeks and when I came back there seemed to be a lot of particles almost like flakes of cream coloured substance.
I used shock & checked the tub the next day but still the same.
I have since emptied the spa & refilled & removed the filter & cleaned it (ther was loads of this stuff in the filter)
The spa was completeley clean but the first time I turned on the jets, more of this stuff shot out. any ideas? All chem levels seem fine & it doesnt smell funny.
Putting in water clarifier has helped a little but not a huger amount.
Do I need a new filter?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had the exact same problem. Never did figure out what caused it but like you, it happened to us while we were away. We had a time getting rid of it! Changed the spa water, changed the filter, and scooped up most of the remaining particles with a net. It's gone now although I'd like to know how to keep it from happening again.

If the substance is chalky, it is likely calcium. Try to take a few of these flakes and put them in white vinegar. If they bubble and dissappear, then it is calcium. To help get rid of it in your spa, you will need to take about a gallon of muratic acid and put it into your spa water, and run your jets for about a half hour. Then let it stand another half hour. Then run for another 15 minutes or so. Then drain and refill the spa IMMEDIATELY with clear water. Run this for about another half hour to help dilute the acid. Then drain and refill the spa one last time. This should help to dissolve the particles that remain in the spa's plumbing and other locations. DO NOT LEAVE THE HIGH LEVEL OF ACID IN THE TUB FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME AS IT WILL SLOWLY ATTACK METALLIC OBJECTS, AND RUBBER SEALS THROUGHOUT THE TUB. YOU MAY DISCOLOR ANY METAL TRIM IN THE SPA BY DOING THIS. THE RISK IS YOURS TO TAKE.
