We have had our CalSpa Journey 507 (475 gal) w/ ozonator for 10 weeks now and have had to drain and refill 5 times. Around week 2, a pina colada type drink was spilled in the tub and I struggled with water clarity for the following 8 weeks.

The most recent scenario:

Sunday - Drained and refilled tub. Added 4 ounces of Metal and Scale Control. (Chelmsford, MA has very high Iron and Copper Levels). After 3 days, changed the filters and balanced the water. Ph = 7.6, Aklinity good and Calcium hardness good.

Following Monday, came home from work after running jets and filter all day, water was getting very clear. At the advice of the company that sold me the spa, I was to shock it. About 3 minutes after Shocking with Potassium based shock, the water turned BROWN!!! and had a pretty strong swamp smell!!!

Anyone have an idea on why the balanced water would turn brown? Changed filters again and added additional metal control to try and recover.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

:?: Couple of questions about your water.
What sanitizer are you using, chlorine or bromine ?

Only 4 ounces of Metal and Scale Control?

There's your problem. When you added the shock you oxidized (rusted) all the metals still in the water
