Ozonator(UV type) on my Vita Essence spa has died. Considering replacing with corona discharge type due according to several other postings they are probably better in terms of performance and yearly cost considering avg lifespan of each type BUT---- you can buy a lot of chemicals for the cost of the ozonator. Any advise would be appreciated

I'm no expert. Search the posts for ozone, ozonator. I'd had similar questions. The short answer is yes, its worth it ; the long answer is it depends on your spa setup, chemical usage and more. If you can retrofit a cd unit it seems like the way to go. But alas not are all of equal quality.
My particular spa has room inside plus was designed with a long enough chamber to take full advantage of the ozone. I'm just still stuck on which ozonator to purchase.
If you dont mind higher chem levels, no need.

If saving money is an option, replacement of O3 isn't.

It doesn't exist to save you $$. It exists to make maintenence easier, and allows you to keep your chlorine levels at a minimum. It exists to make the spa experiecne more pleasant.

I love ozone, Personally, I wouldn't own a spa without an ozonator, provided it has a 24 hour circ pump. I wouldn't have an ozonator if it depended on a two speed jet pump for introduction.

How much can you actually reduce your chlorine? When I do chem measurement it usually is a little less than 3, I do have a cd ozonator, and i'm probably over chlorinating. The girl at my local spa shop is nice but clueless. Oh and I forget I'm also using Natures2, I think maybe a little too much of everything?TIA :

You're over-chlorinating. You must be adding every day to maintain 3ppm. You are using only Sodium dichlor... type chlorine, I hope?
You can let the chlorine levels go to 0 ppm, but add 1/2 a teaspoon or so before you get in to raise the level to 0.5 or 1ppm before you hop in, and add a 1/2 or 1 teaspoon after you get out (Sodim Dichlor chlorine ONLY)

You shouldn't smell any chlorine while you're enjoying the tub

yes I usually add a heaping half capful in AM and soak in the PM. I'll try what you say and do the 1/2 teaspoon before entering. think i'm not gonna use the Nature2 cartridge anymore once it runs out. It is the dichlor stuff, from one of the spa manufacturers. Thanks
