I'm having a problem with our spa. All seems fine, except that we cough a lot from the steam. It seems that there may be some chemical that is being released that is causing this. Any solutions? I've never experienced this in the 5 years since we've had the spa.

I've had similar problems. What kind of chemicals are you using? We use Baqua Spa and for the first year we had our spa, it was great. Then, all of a sudden....any time we would turn on the jets, we'd all immediately start coughing.

We are actually using Baquaspa as well. It's only a recent thing. I wonder if I should drain the spa and start again? I know they changed the chemicals a little too, and combined two of them - I wonder if that's what's doing it. If you hear, please let me know. Thanks

 i can tell u that i have been using bromine and have used chlorine in the past. At least once with chlorine and twice with the bronine i have experienced the same thing. It does come and go however. I read somewhere what causes this about a year ago, before i ever had the problem , and now can not find the article. do u use any fragrances? i'm thinking that's what it is when combined with not so perfect spa water..........??????????
please post if anyone knows.

Based on my experiences, as crazy as it sounds, I think it may be a weather thing. The coughing seems to happen only in the summer. Now that colder weather has come, the problem has disappeared....same as last year.

I would say its the bromine ( bromanmines) the dead bromine off gasing. Switch to chlorine not over 1.0 - 3.0 at all times , ph 7.6 alk 90 - 100, your problems will be over. Its not the scents. If it smells or is off gasing there is not enough sanitizer residual its the dead bacteria. Erik

Especially when the water has not been changed out recently and the tub has not been used. I have taken to leaving the top open for a few minutes before I get in..
