I am running a Hot Springs Jetsetter spa (about 4 years old). This year I have noticed that my Total Alky is constantly high. In fact, I have drained and refilled the spa three times this summer only to return to the high TA (220-350) after about a week. It is an outside spa. I use granulated spa chlorine as a sanitizer (allergic to bromine) and a N2 cartridge. Upon a new refill, my TA is around 120 but as I said before, the TA quickly climbs. The water is always sparkling clear. I keep my PH between 7.4-7.6 religiously (20 Mule team borax to raise PH, and an occasional teaspoon of muriatic acid to lower). I have found that using the commercial spa PH increasers/decreasers just made the TA problem worse. I am stumped. By the way, it seems odd that the TA is HIGH at the same time the PH is low. Any ideas? Anyone else ever have this problem? All my local Hot Springs dealer can advise is to keep changing the water.

 There's the possibility the chlorine your using is stabilized and you could be producing cyanuric acids which can cause false TA
readings.

Maybe bad test strips

High TA from water source
