New guy here, 1st post.

So, what's wrong with using soft water? I have always heard soft water is bad, but there is know way I can make myself put straight well water in the spa. The water out of our well is really hard and really doesn't smell that good.

You need a certain amount of hardness (also referred to total hardness) of the water for proper chemical balance. What I would suggest is get a reverse-osmosis filter that attches to your garden hose, so your well water will have the iron and stuff removed, and use that for filling the tub.

I beleive it is a misconception perpetuated by the Langelier index, which has since been corrected. But the damage has alrewady been done, it's been taught for so long that softened water is more corrosive, when in reality it's not.
