hello to all,
I am about to pick up a mid 80's calspas 7ft spa. it is being given to me for free. I have been told the only issue with it is the heater element. I have been also told it is a 220 volt tub. Now what exactly is the need for 220v supplied power on this tub? I know the heater is 220v but everything else under there looks like it is 110v.
I presently live in government quarters and have no 220 volts hook ups out side in the back yard, and cannot get them installed (not my house). Is it possible to say unplug something 220v in the house and run a 6 gauge wire out to the tub (say 30 to 50 feet)?
or can it be converted to run off of 110 say if I change out the heater element to the 110v version, and change the plug and gfci? I have a gfci wall plug outside next to the patio door, say 8 feet away.
I could also use any help on orientation with how to use this tub and how everything works with it. I can send pictures of it after saturday when I get it. The main control box stand is very rusty but I can fix it easily. I need a boost in familiarity with the systems of these tubs. After all I have spent tons of time in them, not under them. I have already identified the problem with the heater, and am ordering a new element.
Any help a familiarization would be great, including things to watch out for. Things to inspect ect.
Any help is appreciated!!!

To get 220 to your spa you need to drill into your breaker box and use conduit to get to an outside breaker box you install. Just go into your breaker box, pry out a hole, take a long drill bit and drill through the side of the house. Then take a hole making drill bit ( i don't know what they are called) and drill from the outside in. Take conduit or flexhose, appropriate fittings, and wire out to the secondary breaker box. There you should install a gfci breaker. Then go to your tub with additional conduit and wire.

Another tip is not to use chemicals (chlorine or bromine). I use Spa Magic an all natural spa cleaner that lasts up to 3 months. If you have any questions call The Natural Solution 1-800-693-0585
