ours you have to lift completely off...recently my hubbie only lifts it halfway and gets in-i tell him not a good idea because you want to release the vapors prior to getting in.....
thoughts here?

There shouldn't be an noticeable vapors. If you have to vent it before entering, you may be using a tad too much sanitizer, or your PH could be out of whack.
