Hello,

I figured that this might be a good place to ask this kind of question and hopefully others might benefit form this as well.

I live in southern NY State and bought a used spa from a neighbor last week. The unit is somewhat older (I believe 1992) made by Thermo Spas. The good news is that it was garage kept and we're not even sure if it was ever installed. It is a bit dusty but otherwise in terrific condition, shell, cover and exterior wood. It is a somewhat basic unit, likely considered a 3 seater, has 6 jets and bubbler holes across the seats. It is both 110/220, air controls, one blower and another pump motor (no ozonator).

I'm NOT new to spas. My parents have had two models form Calera Spas (purchased thru Costco that have both been very nice).

I called Thermo spas and spoke about a possible trade in or getting other parts. They are a factory direct company but seemed kind of pricey.

Since I got my hot tub pretty cheaply I don't mind dumping some money in to either get a new unit or update my existing one but I wasn't really planning on spenting thousands of dollars on it (a few grand perhaps).

Currently I estimate that AFTER trade in I'd still be looking at $4K+

I'm open to any suggestions.
I arrived here via the spapatsnet.com site which seemed to have some pretty resonable upgrade options (So hat's off to those guys for a real user friendly site).

Should I trade my spa for a new one (& if so any vendor suggestions would be nice)?

Should I consider upgrading anything in my existing spa and just keeping it? Controls with temp & LCD? Perhaps more jets via some retrofit kit? (I think the ozonator is a given).

Thanks,
Ken

If the spa is in workable condition, why change a thing? Granted the bells and whistles are nice, but the old equipment design would still be just fine. As far as an ozonator, they help with sanitization, but don't eliminate it, so you can add one in, or leave it as is.

Personally? I would enjoy it as it is, get additcted, and trade up when I've done more research into what I am really looking for.
